In the Featured Designer series, we highlight the work of outstanding individuals building incredible things. Today, we chat with Khalif Akhyar! Khalif popped up seemingly out of nowhere and starting cranking out one innovative design after another. He currently has over 50 original creations and only joined a couple of months ago! We reached out to Khalif to see if he’d tell us about himself and what inspires him.

MB: Khalif, tell us a bit about yourself.
KA: I’m 11 years old, from Malaysia, Kuala Lampur.
How and when did your interest for 3D building as a hobby come about?
My hobby come from when I find MakerBrane on Facebook. I think this game and 3D building is really really the best.
What is the best stuff you created/built ever? (physically or digitally)
Upside Down House. In the beginning i want to make another building using Meccano Jr®. Suddenly my idea to build upside down house came indirectly.
Which creative (somebody famous or a friend) do you admire the most? Share his best creation from your point of view.
I like ahmetersal’s design because his designs are creative. One of my favourites is “Movie Theater.”
What’s your most unlikely source of inspiration for your builds? (websites, books…)
Actually, I had no source of inspiration for building.
Do you have a favorite theme to build around?
My favorite theme is colorful and out of the box.
What’s your next planned model?
I think… a build like a machine like fan and something like that.
If a friend would ask you what MakerBrane is, what would be your answer?
MakerBrane is a game like minecraft but it has LEGO® and so many materials to build with.
