MB: Tell us a little about yourself, Ahmet
AE: I am from Turkey and I live in Istanbul. I’m 33 years old. I’m a civil engineer and work as a construction supervisor in various construction projects.
How and when did your interest for digital design as a hobby come about?
I’ve been interested in drawing since I was little. Before technological advances, I was making a model of cardboard. The “infinity” of digital media impressed me… a world whose boundaries are drawn only by our imagination. I think it’s great.
What is the best stuff you created/built ever? (as a kid or an adult, whatever material, physically or digitally)
We completed the medical school building two years ago. Doctors of the future are studying in that building. It feels so good to me.
What would you consider is your best creation/build at MakerBrane and why is it so special to you?
Bursa Orhan Mosque. it was my first carton model. In the library of our house, I found 60-year-old plans. I wanted to do as it was in my mind. I love our traditional architecture.
Which architect/designer/creator/artist do you admire the most? Share his best creation from your point of view
I think Mimar Sinan is a favorite of many people.
By synthesizing the culture from the past, successful designs have reached today. Selimiye mosque “my masterpiece,” he has described. It was built in 1575 by Sinan. The doors seen in the minarets are accessed in three different ways.
I think with this work, Sinan won the race with Ayasofya. Hagia Sophia influenced world architecture and Mimar Sinan. This interaction has brought us wonderful works.
What’s your most unlikely source of inspiration for your builds, and is there a theme you like building around?
Places I visit, it helps a lot. I live in a historical place. I can see 1000-year-old walls from my house window. I like designing historic places or similar. We can call it “a Journey In Time.”
If you were given 3 words, how would you describe your designs?
Simple, Meaningful, Lonely.
What’s your next planned model?
I have so many ideas in my head. I haven’t decided yet. I think I want to make a nice train station.
(MB Note: He actually did it!)
If a friend would ask you what MakerBrane is, what would be your answer?
A successful resource for digital art design education. The easy way to get from simple to complex.
